Cos’è l’INA grm?

The collaboration between Pierre Schaeffer and the Groupe de Recherches Musicales, or GRM, was a crucial—almost foundational—individual-institutional symbiosis for the evolution of music in the second half of the 20th century. Starting in the 1940s, Schaeffer formulated the radical idea of "musique concrète" – a composition technique that uses recorded sounds as raw material.
In the 1960s, a new group of young composers including François Bayle, Luc Ferrari, Bernard Parmegiani, and Beatriz Ferreyra began working at GRM, significantly expanding the range of approaches to what was then called acousmatic music, or music composed for presentation through speakers. In the 1970s, GRM's studios expanded to include an electronic studio, featuring a custom synthesizer and mixer. In 1975, GRM was incorporated into the INA (French National Audiovisual Institute), and shortly afterward, they started releasing records featuring works by the aforementioned composers, along with new pieces by Ivo Malec, Jean-Claude Risset, Guy Reibel, Michel Redolfi, and others.
