ENSEMBLE IN RESIDENCE 2024

SYNTAX

Syntax Ensemble was founded in Milan in 2018 as a contemporary music group. It has quickly established itself as a reference in the Italian music scene. The ensemble comprises top-class musicians from Italy and across Europe, including Valentina Coladonato (voice), Fernando Caida Greco (cello), Maurilio Cacciatore (electronics), Pasquale Corrado (conductor), Anna D’Errico (piano and keyboards), Francesco D’Orazio (violin and electric violin), Marco Ignoti (clarinets and wind controller), Dario Savron (percussion), and Maruta Staravoitava (flutes). In 2019, Syntax held its inaugural concert season at Teatro Dal Verme in Milan, receiving critical acclaim and a great response from the audience. The ensemble’s concert series, now held at Auditorium San Fedele, has gained recognition for its innovative concert formats. It incorporates collaborations with multimedia artists and creates dialogues between diverse repertoires, resulting in an engaging and thought-provoking experience for the audience. Syntax Ensemble has performed at festivals such as Milano Musica, Traiettorie Parma, Nuova Consonanza Roma, Amici della Musica di Firenze and Accademia Filarmonica Romana. It collaborates with some of the foremost composers of our time, namely Ivan Fedele, Toshio Hosokawa, Unsuk Chin, Beat Furrer, George Benjamin, Michael Jarrell, Marco Stroppa, Alberto Posadas, José Manuel López López, Klaus Lang, Dimitri Kourliandski, Francesco Filidei, Alessandro Solbiati, Gabriele Manca, a.o. In December 2020, the ensemble was awarded the “Vivere all’italiana in musica” prize, supported by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The prize allowed the group to produce “Una sola moltitudine”, an audio-visual project featuring works and new commissions by Italian composers. Syntax Ensemble is also dedicated to educational projects: from 2019 to 2021, it appeared as the ensemble in residence at the international composition masterclasses held at the Conservatory “G. Verdi” in Milan, as well as at the international courses at Festival Pontino in Sermoneta. In 2024, the ensemble is starting a partnership with the Scuola Civica in Milan, collaborating with the Giovanni Verrando’s composition class.
