/// PIERROT PERSPECTIVES [mixed media] The 150th anniversary of Arnold Schoenberg's birth is a landmark in the history of music and live performance. This project aims to focus attention on one of the Viennese composer's most important works, Pierrot lunaire, and at the same time to breathe new life into the texts by the Symbolist poet Albert Giraud, which Schoenberg did not include in his work, by commissioning new pieces from three important composers of the Italian scene. The inventions contained in Pierrot, such as the Sprechstimme and the Sprechgesang, represent a new way of imagining singing and acting that has undoubtedly marked the history of 20th century composition. There is a legacy left by Pierrot that needs to be collected in order to determine new artistic paths from the Schoenbergian acquisitions. Pierrot Perspectives includes the performance of the original Pierrot Lunaire interspersed with new works entrusted to Maurilio Cacciatore and Gianvincenzo Cresta. The texts chosen were taken from the remaining poems by Giraud that Schönberg did not use in his work. It is therefore a question of reconstructing a precious poetic mosaic, of which Pierrot lunaire is only one piece. Then there is the use of electronics as a further development of a discourse on sonic utopia initiated by Schoenberg at the beginning of the last century. Pierrot Perspectives is more than a performance: it is a musical archaeology that, by digging into historical and cultural layers, invites us to contemplate the complex relationships between past and present, offering us an experience rich in meanings and connections.
